چکیده

The vital role of the charged moieties of monovalent aromatic anions in regulating the aggregation of a cationic conjugated polyelectrolyte was exploited in terms of the hard-soft acid-base principle and its application to colorimetric sensing of taurine was examined.

Anthryl-doped conjugated polyelectrolytes as aggregation-based sensors for nonquenching multicationic analytes.

The fluorescence-based detection of nonquenching, multicationic small molecules has been demonstrated using a blue-emitting, polyanionic poly(p-phenylene ethynylene) (PPE) doped with green-emitting exciton traps (anthryl units). Multicationic amines (spermine, spermidine, and neomycin) were found to effectively induce the formation of tightly associated aggregates between the polymer chains in ...

Colorimetric detection of DNA, small molecules, proteins, and ions using unmodified gold nanoparticles and conjugated polyelectrolytes.

We have demonstrated a novel sensing strategy employing single-stranded probe DNA, unmodified gold nanoparticles, and a positively charged, water-soluble conjugated polyelectrolyte to detect a broad range of targets including nucleic acid (DNA) sequences, proteins, small molecules, and inorganic ions. This nearly "universal" biosensor approach is based on the observation that, while the conjuga...

Aggregation of flexible polyelectrolytes: Phase diagram and dynamics.

Similarly charged polymers in solution, known as polyelectrolytes, are known to form aggregated structures in the presence of oppositely charged counterions. Understanding the dependence of the equilibrium phases and the dynamics of the process of aggregation on parameters such as backbone flexibility and charge density of such polymers is crucial for insights into various biological processes ...

Conjugated Polyelectrolytes in Interactions with Biomolecules for Supramolecular Assembly and Sensing

__________________________________________________________________________ Conjugated polyelectrolytes (CP) show interesting electrical and optical properties for organic electronics as well as for life science applications. Their possibilities of supramolecular assembly with nanowire like misfolded proteins, amyloids, as well as synthetic polypeptides or DNA forming conducting or luminescent n...

Unraveling electronic energy transfer in single conjugated polyelectrolytes encapsulated in lipid vesicles.

A method for the study of conjugated polyelectrolyte (CPE) photophysics in solution at the single-molecule level is described. Extended observation times of single polymer molecules are enabled by the encapsulation of the CPEs within 200-nm lipid vesicles, which are in turn immobilized on a surface. When combined with a molecular-level visualization of vesicles and CPE via cryo-transmission ele...
